Big Brother Is a Psychological Game. That’s the Point.
Big Brother is not a game for crybabies. It’s just not.
I have watched this show for more than 20 years, and I’m not sure some newer viewers really understand what it is designed to do. We live in such a politically correct world now that people see one confrontation or one blunt comment and immediately decide someone is “mean” or “hateful.”
Y’all, this is Big Brother. That is the entire point.
They take people from different ethnicities, religions, backgrounds, personalities, and walks of life and lock them in a house together for an entire summer. They have no contact with the outside world, no real privacy, no social media, no phones, no family, and no escape from one another.
Then they make them compete against each other, form alliances, lie to one another, betray one another, nominate one another, and eventually pick one another off one by one.
Of course people are going to get emotional. Of course they are going to get on each other’s nerves. That psychological pressure is part of the game.
Then you add the Have-Nots, who have to eat slop all week, take cold showers, and sleep in hard beds. You add endurance competitions, brutal punishments, and the constant fear that somebody you trusted may be plotting to send you home. It gets tough.
Anyone who signs up for Big Brother and isn’t mentally, physically, and emotionally prepared probably should not be there. They will either get sent home quickly or ride somebody else’s coattails as a floater until they are picked off near the end.
And nobody in the jury house wants to vote for a floater.
I’ve watched plenty of winners take the game that I didn’t personally want to win, but I honestly can’t think of many who absolutely did not deserve it. The jury is made up of the people who actually played against the finalists, and I think they usually get it right.
Honestly, I’m glad America does not get to choose the winner. Based on some of the message boards I have been reading, I think that could be very disappointing.
Now that I’ve gotten that out of my system, I will say this has been a pretty good season of Big Brother. Gary and I have gotten really into the live feeds.
I haven’t been staying up ridiculously late because they are three hours behind us, but I have been watching until around midnight. When Gary works night shifts, he tries to keep the feeds playing in his ear and fills me in the next day on what happened.
The houseguests are hard to keep up with late at night because there usually isn’t much going on, but it has been fun watching some of the behind-the-scenes strategies unfold.
I turned the feeds on this morning, and every single one of them was still asleep. I sat there watching people sleep and listening to Angela snore for about 30 minutes before I finally asked myself what in the hell I was doing and turned it off.
I’m still on the fence about how I feel about the Icons. I really like Devens, though. I like him a lot more than Dee, and I’m disappointed that he will probably be the target. I think Dee needs to go. I would have been completely over the moon if they had somehow gotten Yash on the block. It didn’t happen, but that would have been my ideal situation.
I also think Angela is hilarious. A lot of people find her annoying, but Gary and I get such a kick out of her. We will sit there listening to her ramble and talk until we both start laughing. She says some of the funniest things without even trying.
If I had to pick the strongest players based strictly on gameplay right now, I would say Devens, Barrett, and Drew. It is hard to include Devens when I know he may be going home this week, but to me, those three have played the hardest.
Like him or not, Drew has played a game. I understand that a lot of people don’t care for him, but he has managed to play both sides of the house and has done it pretty well.
I completely disagree with the people who think Yash is going to pull this out. He is physically competitive, and I think winning competitions would be his only path to the end. However, he has made enough people mad that I cannot imagine the jury voting for him. When I picture him sitting beside any of the remaining players, I have a hard time seeing who would choose him over the other person.
I could be wrong. That is the fun of Big Brother.
Anyway, that is my little two cents for now. I did not talk about Big Brother much on my old blog, and I regret that. I rarely talked about the things that genuinely interested me because I didn’t think the people reading shared those interests.
I’m doing things differently with this blog. I’m going to talk about the things I truly enjoy so I can find the right people to talk and engage with.
So, if you’re into Big Brother and don’t mind seeing me post my art pretty frequently, then give me a follow. I’ll follow you back. And please tell me who you think deserves to win because I am ready to talk about it!!
