Southern Roots

I’ve had two of my aunts really pushing me lately to do more Southern stuff, and I think they might be right. I may lean into that a little bit.

I’m always gonna paint whatever I feel like painting, which is probably obvious considering I change directions about every five minutes. 😂 I wake up with a different idea or a different vibe all the time, and honestly, I kind of like being that way.

But I do think Southern art is something I could keep steadily working into what I do until it just becomes part of the kind of artist I am. Not necessarily traditional Southern art either. I’m still gonna make it weird. 😂

I’ve been wanting to do a collection of magnolias for a while, but I’m picturing really bright colors, big wide leaves, loose black line work and maybe a few totally different versions of them. Some watercolor, definitely, but I may pull my acrylics back out too because I’ve discovered lately that I really love acrylic on paper.

And then maybe pearls, old whiskey bottles, silver trays, lace, antique perfume bottles, cameo brooches, church fans, china cups, velvet chairs, old matchbooks, porch swings, hydrangeas, old mirrors… all that slightly fancy, slightly faded Southern stuff.

Basically Southern, but through my slightly crooked little lens. 😂

xoxo- Jenny
