Back to It!

Well, it's Monday, and the kids are finally headed back to school for the first time since the storm! We still don't have Internet at the house, and apparently neither does the school, but at least they'll be back in their classrooms. I think at this point they're both ready to go back. It's starting to feel like we've been on fall break, especially with Gary being home so much. Just a really boring fall break where half the town is still shut down. 😂

Gage is especially excited because he gets to see his girlfriend. Norah Harper, not so much. Bless her heart, that child just does not love school. I wish she did, but she comes home absolutely drained most days. She's always been our honor roll kid, but this year she's got a couple of C's, and it's really been bothering her. She's taking some pretty difficult classes, though, and I've always told my kids that as long as they're genuinely trying, I'm happy.

Gage has always struggled with math. He finished this last semester with three A's, but he also had a pretty low D in algebra. Meanwhile, he had a B in his other math class. Go figure! Math is just genuinely difficult for him, and I'm not going to punish a child for something he's already struggling to understand. I think kids need encouragement, confidence, and somebody cheering them on. They don't need to be torn down over grades when they're already doing their best. There's a whole lot more to being a successful human being than a report card.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting back into something resembling a normal routine today!

I'm headed out in a little while to get my hair cut. Nothing dramatic, just getting my curtain bangs re-layered because they've grown down past my nose. My hair grows so ridiculously fast that having bangs is practically a part-time job. I think I'm just going to have to accept that I'll be getting them trimmed every four to six weeks.

I was tempted to have my color done while I'm there, but I honestly cannot decide what I want. I'm torn between going a couple of shades darker and warmer, with more of a reddish tone, or going darker and cooler, maybe something like a mushroom blonde or dark ash blonde. Two completely different directions, naturally, because why would I make anything easy?

I'll probably just do the color myself once I make up my mind. I've never been afraid of coloring my own hair, although I don't really use traditional box color. I usually go to Sally's and buy professional color and developer. I just need to figure out what I'm in the mood for before I start making commitments involving chemicals and my head. 😂

Other than that, I've got a pretty full day planned! I want to finish three of my commissions that are needed before Christmas, get my Inktober drawing done, and hopefully make a few more minis for my studio shop. I've got plenty to keep me busy, and I'm actually excited to get back to my little routine.

I'm also thinking I might stop and pick up everything to make a big homemade lasagna tonight and surprise the kids. I haven't made one in probably a year, and it sounds so good! There's something nice about having everybody back on their regular schedules and a homemade dinner waiting at the end of the day. Especially after the last couple of weeks we've had around here.

A haircut, some painting, maybe a little lasagna, and hopefully a productive Monday.

It's gonna be a good day!! ❤️
