Retail Therapy!!
I don't think I've enjoyed shopping this much in years! I'm absolutely loving all the 1990s Gap, J.Crew, and Banana Republic-inspired styles coming back. The pullovers, button-downs, layered looks, all of it. It's the kind of clothing I've always loved, and I'm thrilled to see so much of it again.
I've been purging my closet like crazy lately, so it's been fun finding new things to replace what I've gotten rid of. I spent part of this morning doing a little online fall shopping since most of our stores still aren't open after the hurricane. I'm particularly excited about a Lola pullover I ordered from Free People. Now I'm just hoping it hangs the way I want it to!
Meanwhile, we've got two guys out back tackling the fallen trees. They started around 7:30 this morning, and that enormous pine that came over from our neighbor's yard is going to be quite the project. There's probably 40 feet of tree to deal with!
Poor Gary worked an 18-hour shift last night and will be coming home to all this noise. It was his first solo shift in his new position, and I'm sure he did great. His job is so mentally demanding, and I don't know how he manages those hours. I'm just glad he'll be driving home in daylight. Hopefully he'll be exhausted enough to sleep through the chainsaws!
Speaking of sleeping, I have slept like an absolute baby since our electricity came back on. The last two nights have probably been the best sleep I've had in years. I haven't even moved! This morning I woke up with Norah Harper and both dogs in my bed. Between everybody and Clementine being approximately the size of another human being, it was a full house.
Gary is also picking up our grocery order on his way home. I wouldn't have arranged that had I known he'd be working such a long shift, but thankfully he's getting off around his usual time. We're slowly getting the refrigerator restocked after throwing so much away during the outage. I just ordered the basics for now.
As for me, I'll be spending the rest of the day working on commissions. I've got about six pieces left to finish, although four aren't needed until Christmas. I'd still love to get them all done because I hate having unfinished things hanging over my head.
And of course, I've got today's Inktober drawing to do! I'm actually pretty proud of myself for keeping up with it through all this hurricane nonsense. I haven't loved every prompt, but I've enjoyed finding ways to make them my own. I'm not much for the dark, spooky Halloween stuff, so I've been putting my own lighter, slightly wonky spin on things.
Anyway, that's Friday morning around here. A little shopping, a lot of chainsaw noise, and hopefully a productive afternoon of painting. Slowly but surely, things are getting back to normal, and I couldn't be happier about that.
