Sunday Catch Up

Happy Sunday!

I always try to write a little something on Sundays. It's my favorite day of the week and probably the one I find most reflective. I love Mondays, too, because there's something about starting a fresh week, but Sunday is when I feel like I get a little Word that I can carry into Monday. I always look forward to a good sermon and that little reset for the week ahead.

Gary's gone to pick up Norah Harper, so I thought I'd take a minute to catch up.

We had such a good day yesterday! It rained most of the day, so we didn't get to do some of the things we needed to do outside, but it ended up being pretty perfect anyway. We spent most of the day in bed watching football. Mississippi State, Florida, LSU... we watched them all! Gary hopped in the shower during halftime of the LSU game, and I managed to finish a couple of paintings I'd been wanting to work on.

I FaceTimed with Norah Harper a couple of times last night. She's such a mama's girl. I could tell she was having a great time at her first slumber party, but I could also tell she missed me a little. Otherwise, I doubt she would've been FaceTiming me! We missed her, too. The house was awfully quiet without her.

Gage ended up staying home and didn't have any friends over. Apparently, a few wanted to come, but he talked them out of it. I think he was just exhausted. Around 11, he told me he was going to bed, which is practically unheard of for him on a weekend. He usually stays up until one or two in the morning!

He slept until almost 11 today and has been complaining about his legs hurting. I suspect we're about to have another major growth spurt on our hands. His shoulders are getting wider, he's starting to fill out, and suddenly half his jeans don't fit. He's gained four or five pounds since school started, too. I don't really keep up with his weight, but he does. Every time he goes through one of these growth spurts, he sleeps like crazy and complains about his legs and thighs hurting. Sometimes he gets terrible cramps. Bless his heart.

Anyway, it's been an incredibly lazy and unproductive weekend, but I think we needed exactly that. Gary has practically lived in his pajama pants, and I haven't made it out of my robe and nightgown. He even wore his pajama pants and house slippers to pick up Harper. Just threw on a T-shirt and headed out the door. That pretty much sums up our weekend. 😂

I'm actually about to go hook up the new flatbed scanner Gary bought me yesterday, and I am ridiculously excited about it! The scanner on our current HP printer is TERRIBLE. I've honestly gotten better results photographing my artwork with my iPhone. Sometimes I've even had to add a digital signature to my photographs because my original signature barely showed up.

Being able to get good, high-quality scans of my paintings is going to make such a difference! We used to have a really nice large-format printer, but we sold it because I hardly ever used it. I typically have my artwork printed elsewhere anyway, so I never bothered upgrading our everyday printer.

And speaking of printers, can we talk about how ridiculous everything has gotten?

It's like nobody actually owns anything anymore. You buy a $400 printer, but depending on your subscription, you might have to pay more if you print over a certain number of pages. Run out of one ink color? Sorry! Sometimes you can't even use the others until you replace it.

It's all so bizarre to me. I'm perfectly happy to pay for ink. I just don't understand why buying the actual printer apparently isn't enough anymore.

It reminds me of that whole "You'll eat bugs and you'll like it" mentality. It's practically George Orwell's 1984. We slowly get accustomed to things that would've sounded completely ridiculous years ago, and eventually we just accept them as normal.

Everything is a subscription now. Computer programs, printers, apps... you name it. And as consumers, we keep paying for it, so naturally, companies keep doing it. What are we supposed to do when we actually need these things?

I was thinking about my Apple bill the other day. I used to spend maybe $20 or $30 a month on apps. Now I think I'm getting close to $160! Granted, that includes a few things for the kids, Canva, and who knows what else. I honestly need to sit down and figure out exactly what I'm paying for because I'm sure there's something in there I could cancel.

It's just crazy how all these little monthly charges add up. Some apps even have WEEKLY subscriptions now!

Anyway, there's my Sunday rant. 😂

We just had the most delicious Chipotle Maple Autumn Squash Soup that I picked up at Sam's Club. Oh my goodness, it was GOOD! I had another chicken breast with mine because I'm really making an effort to get my protein in.

Since splitting my weekly shot into 25 units on Monday and 25 units on Thursday, I could honestly go all day without eating. I'm just never hungry anymore. But I'm determined to keep my protein up. I don't need my hair falling out or my face getting saggy because I haven't been eating enough!

Chicken breast has become a regular part of my rotation because it's an easy way to get a good amount of protein in early. That way, if I don't feel like eating much later in the day, I've at least made a decent start.

We'll probably have that soup again for dinner tonight, which means an easy evening for me. I'll throw a pizza or something in the oven for the kids, and that'll be that.

We're not going anywhere. We're going to listen to the rain, watch football, eat comfort food, and enjoy this cloudy, relaxing Sunday afternoon.

Sometimes a weekend with absolutely nothing going on turns out to be exactly what you needed.

Hope y'all had a wonderful weekend!
